Subtitles and dubs on 9AnimeTV, and subtitles that will not show

Where the sub and the dub live, what the SUB flag on every card means, how to fix subtitles that are not showing, and the size to choose for a television.

The SUB flag on every card

Every card on 9AnimeTV carries a SUB flag, and it means what it says: the anime plays with subtitles on the service you open with Watch now, because subtitles travel with every licensed anime stream. The dub is listed in that service's audio menu where the studio has made one: immediately for older series, a few weeks behind for a current cour. Switch during playback and the subtitles follow.

Subtitles not showing

"9animetv subtitles not showing" is searched every month, and the fix is on the service: open the player's subtitle menu and choose English, since some services default to Off or to the language of your device; on a television app the same menu is under the settings icon during playback. If the track is listed but nothing appears, the subtitle size or colour setting has been set to invisible, and resetting it in the service's accessibility settings brings it back.

Size for three metres

Subtitles read comfortably at arm's length are too small across a room. Every service's television app has a subtitle size setting, and Large with a dark background box is the setting that survives a bright scene. Set it once per television; it is remembered.

Which to choose

The original with subtitles is how the series was made and how the voice cast on the anime page performed it; the dub is a different cast doing good work, and it wins when several people are watching and reading is a chore. The search reads romaji, English and Japanese titles, so the name on the dub and the name on the sub both find the page.
